I’m spending part of my Saturday down at the Subaru dealer to get our Outback and my WRX serviced. Wandering around the lot, I came across the Brobaru, an Outback that’s being sold as new with a few added accessories.
It has a 2” lift kit, a brush bar, a basket, accessory lights, and smaller wheels with larger tires.
The company providing the parts is LP Aventure (not misspelled) -
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I have to admit, I really like it. Since our Outback is going to be my daughter’s car, I asked her what she thought. She’s all-in for everything except the roof basket.
The only thing missing is a set of skid plates.
Of course, a sales guy appeared out of the blue, which was a good thing since he was willing to tell me all about what they had done. He said they swapped the premium package 18” wheels for 17” so they could get tires with more sidewall. He also said they’d like to go smaller, but there are clearance issues with the caliper and 16” wheels. Either way, I think they look really sharp and probably provide better off-road performance since you can air them down a bit.
The price? All of this is mounted on a 2.5 Premium with an MSRP nearly $31k. They want another $8,800 for their add-ons, the bulk of it tied up in the wheels and tires.
While I really like it, nearly $40k for a 2.5 Outback is just a bit too much. Maybe someday, but definitely not today.
But dang, it sure looks nice.

Yea, no. 40K for a 2.5. No sir.
I do however like the concept. Looks cool.

You could build your own for quite a bit less than $8k.. and use the rest for gas...

It’s about $4k in parts. I can do the install myself. I just have to get my daughter a different car.

Get some 17 take- offs, talk to primitive for the lift, and skids.
I’m not a fan of cage roof racks- I would look for something with more of a platform if you need to carry things. Rack mounted lights are going to glare all over your hood- a good bracket through the grill would be way better. The barwork up front looks sloppy, and decreases your angles that are already not great.
And then you could probably afford a rtt for the top with the left overs..

10/10 would drive if it had the 3.6.

No doubt. But the 3.6 would make up for that.

Take a closer look. There’s a light bar on the brush bar. That brush bar extends only an inch or so down. I’d trade a little protection for a money change in approach angle.

Tube brush guard like that is going to be a damage multiplier at best.. better off using some of that spare change for oz shipping..

I’m not sure what you think this build would be used for. It wouldn’t be some heavy, rock-crawling, trail-blazing monster. The Outback doesn’t have the suspension or drive train for that. Anyone building an Outback wants to do most of the trails that can get you deeper into the woods or farther into the desert. Just being able to go most of the places the locals go in their trucks would make me happy.
What Subaru has done with this build is take Wes Siler’s Outback build up one notch. If you haven’t read that, go take a look: https://gizmodo.com/how-i-turned-my-subaru-outback-into-a-real-adventuremob-1716068985
He also explains why an Outback makes a good platform for most adventure builds. Worrying about the total strength of a brush guard is just unnecessary in this context. Give me some bump protection, a place to mount some lights, and something to keep small brush from ripping off the lower bumper cover and I’ll be happy.

Yeah no thanks, Wes Siler.. yep that’s perfect fit for that car.
